Lindy Joffe, OTD

Lindy moved to the United States from South Africa in 1976 just before her seventh birthday. Due to differences in the organization of the school year in the two countries and her late summer birth, she jumped into second grade with only a couple of months of first grade under her belt. She had a funny accent, and she couldn’t read. Though she caught up quickly with help, the feelings brought up by her placement in “remedial” reading stayed with her until college. While now stronger for this experience, her earliest relationship to her own learning had a profound impact on how she related in the world. It also both led her directly to and feeds her passion for pediatric OT.

Lindy has been a practicing occupational therapist for 25 years. She completed her master’s degree in OT at Columbia University in 1999 and her doctoral degree in OT at Boston University In 2022, focusing her dissertation on the intersection between the sensory regulatory and executive functioning systems. She is fascinated by the ways in which the motor, sensory,perceptual, and reflex systems interact with cognitive skills to propel an individual’s problem-solving abilities in both three-dimensional spaces and during tabletop work. She loves working with the kids but is equally passionate about working with the families and teams of professionals that coalesce around each child’s needs. She is also committed to being able to translate complex concepts to people from different professional and layperson backgrounds.

Lindy has taught both parenting workshops and continuing education courses locally and nationally. She is the creator of both Steady Minds and Start Right: Developmental Foundations to Last a Lifetime. When she is not working, she focuses her time on her partner, two children, dog, and friends. She also loves running, hiking, tai chi, and has recently discovered a love for playing the piano.
